Description: Disocactus amazonicus is a striking epiphytic cactus native to the tropical rainforests of the Amazon Basin, particularly in parts of Brazil and surrounding regions. It thrives in humid, shaded environments, often growing on trees where it receives filtered light and excellent air circulation. This species is known for its flattened, leaf-like stems and spectacular, large funnel-shaped flowers that bloom in shades of pink to magenta. As a rainforest cactus, Disocactus amazonicus prefers conditions quite different from desert cacti — it requires consistent moisture, well-draining organic-rich soil, and high humidity to flourish. Ideally grown in hanging baskets or mounted, it should be kept in bright, indirect light and protected from direct sun. During the growing season, regular watering and occasional feeding with a balanced, diluted fertilizer will support healthy growth and flowering. In cooler months, allow the plant to dry slightly between waterings and reduce feeding.

CULTIVATION TIPS
We recommend purchasing 2 or 3 cuttings when planting up a pot as it will ensure the development of a robust and aesthetic plant.

Disocactus should be grown in a rich but still well draining soil. They should be watered regularly and fertilized as well. This is essential for good growth and flowering. Disocactus dislike extreme heat and cold, so they are best green-housed during the depth of winter and heat of summer in hot dry climates. They also prefer shade to sun, and like a little extra humidity in the air. Flowering in spring and summer the flower color varies from white, yellow red or purple depending on species.
