The leatherleaf airplant native to South America and southern Florida.

Up to 40 cm in length including the inflorescence, usually single but occasionally in clumps. Leaves are narrowly triangular, soft and brittle.

Bracts are red, green or purple, less than 1 cm wide, covering and obscuring the rachis. Flowers are lavender to blue, up to 3 cm in length.

Sun exposure: Bright filtered light indoors or undercover outdoors.
Water requirement: Low–moderate.
Maintenance: Low.

Each living plant is unique and may vary slightly in size, colour or shape depending on the season. Flowering plants are sent when available.
